ARTIST’S STATEMENT ON “STACKED STONE” SERIES
Collecting stones has always been part of my life. When I was ten years old my father brought me a book on geology and I then spent many a Sunday afternoon at the gravel pit collecting rocks. They were more than just rocks to me. Picking them up, noticing the color weight and texture, I delighted in each treasure found. Today these rocks have become my palette.
With these stones as my armature and clay as a soft, malleable material, I work on sculpture with a spiritual force. I add and subtract to their surfaces, stacking and forming the stones into complete statements. This brings these simple objects into a relationship that changes their significance. Frozen in bronze, I have made these statements available for your interpretation.
